Carlos Aviña has been confirmed as AS Monaco’s new technical director. The Mexican, who has been working as Sporting Director at Satellite club Cercle Brugge since 2020 replaces Laurence Stewart, who was appointed Sporting Director at Chelsea back in January.
Aviña will work alongside newly-appointed Thiago Scuro, who has replaced Paul Mitchell as Sporting Director at the Principality club. Despite handing over the keys to the project, Mitchell remains at the club, guiding Scuro through his first steps.
Aviña, a 32-year-old Mexican with experience at CF America, helped take Cercle Brugge to the playoffs in the Belgian top-flight last season. Aviña is the replacement for Stewart, who left the club to join Chelsea midway through last season. Scuro and Aviña will work with Adi Hütter, who replaced Philippe Clement in the dugout at the Stade Louis II this summer. Cercle have replaced Aviña with Rembert Vromant. The 37-year-old arrives from the Belgian football federation.
