PSG have officially announced the signing of Benfica centre-forward Gonçalo Ramos (22). Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica have agreed a one-year loan with a quasi-obligatory option to buy the Portugal international on a permanent deal next summer. Les Parisiens will reportedly pay Benfica a €20m loan fee upfront that is part of a total package worth €80m, including €15m in performances-related add-ons. Ramos will sign a five-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions should the loan option be triggered.
PSG have been in the market for an out-and-out striker for a year now following their failure to lure Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. This summer, Paris Saint-Germain had been making efforts with varying degrees of seriousness to sign one of Victor Osimhen, Marcus Thuram, Harry Kane, Dušan Vlahović or Rasmus Højlund. Under-pressure PSG Sporting advisor Luís Campos was said to have been leading the way to bring Ramos to the Parc des Princes, notably by way of his proximity with the Portuguese forward’s agent Jorge Mendes.
The 22-year-old came to international prominence for the first time when he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland at last year’s World Cup in his first international start. Ramos logged 27 goals in all competitions for Benfica last season. Paris Saint-Germain are also set to sign Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona and are pushing to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani.
