Athletic continue to hope that Williams will eventually agree to a contract extension, but the winger has continued to evade questions on the matter, and negotiations are currently in the phase of ‘we will see what will happen,’ according to Marca.
The uncertainty around his future has only increased in the last hours following comments made by his agent, Félix Tainta, in which he said, “His contract expires in a few months, let’s not forget. There is no definitive offer from the club or the player, but it is ultimately the player who has to decide his future.”
The key date will be January 1, at which point Williams will be able to start negotiations with other clubs should he wish to, at which point his intentions will become clear.
