Niclas Füllkrug was forced off in Werder Bremen’s 2-1 victory against Schalke 04 on the weekend having opened the scoring for his side. Füllkrug suffered a knock to the back and underwent an ultrasound after the game. Due to the timing of this year’s World Cup, any time a top player goes off injured it could have horrible consequences.
Thankfully, Füllkrug’s injury is not as bad as many feared. It’s believed that the in-form striker could be out for a few days but they will have to wait and see. However, one thing is certain. Niclas Füllkrug will be available for selection for the World Cup, as reported by Kicker. Despite not featuring in any of Germany’s qualifiers, the 29-year-old is the country’s in-form striker right now and deserves a place on the plane. With the likes of Timo Werner missing through injury, Füllkrug’s participation is pretty much confirmed if it wasn’t already.
For Werder Bremen fans, there is some possible bad news. Füllkrug could be missing for their game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening. The forward admitted his participation is in doubt: “It’s questionable whether I can play, there are only two days left.”
