Newcastle eye move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

Newcastle United have reportedly identified Everton man Amadou Onana as a potential signing, according to The Telegraph.

The Toons want to bolster their midfield options and have the Belgian powerhouse on their radar.

Newcastle’s midfield took a major hit when Sandro Tonali received a lengthy ban for his involvement in the Italian betting scandal that rocked football last year.

They have also had to deal with a plethora of injuries, including one to Joelinton that could rule him out for the rest of the season. 

The Brazilian may never play for the Magpies again as he is entering the final 18 months of his contract with the club and could be sold this summer if he refuses to sign a new deal.

Joelinton reportedly wants over £150,000 a week, and the Magpies are not keen on agreeing to that figure.

Bruno Guimaraes’ future is also up in the air, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in the Brazilian.

Consequently, Newcastle are after midfield reinforcement and Onana, unsettled at Everton, is on their radar.

Everton are open to selling the 22-year-old despite him thriving under manager Sean Dyche. The Merseyside club breached Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules twice this season and need to sell to balance their books.

Newcastle have been discussing new signings this week, and Onana’s name was reportedly a hot topic even though his £50 million valuation could be the problem.

Onana also has interest from Manchester United and Arsenal, and Newcastle could face a fight on their hands to snag the midfielder.

Onana is a midfielder with terrific potential who can bolster Newcastle in the short and long term. Although, they have other targets on their shortlist, including Manchester City’s wantaway midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
