Newcastle eye £60m summer swoop for Arsenal target Pedro Neto

Newcastle United are eyeing a summer move for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Pedro Neto, per the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old has been on fire for Wolves this term, bagging two goals and nine assists in 18 Premier League appearances.

Neto would strengthen Newcastle’s attack with Miguel Almiron subject to interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, the Portuguese international would likely cost upwards of £60 million, constituting a financial problem for a Newcastle side struggling with their balance sheet amid Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) concerns.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is a massive fan of Neto, and his pace, skill, and playmaking ability would give the Toons another dimension in attack.

Although, they will be wary of the injury problems which have plagued him for most of his career. They have blighted his momentum, but he always seems to find a way to bounce back into stellar form.

Newcastle will likely face competition for his signature, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur monitoring his progress. The pair could enter a bidding war, which Wolves would encourage.

Newcastle are also on the lookout for defensive reinforcement and have their eyes on AFC Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly. He is a free agent this summer and would make a decent pick for the Magpies.

In more exciting news for Newcastle, the club has hired Odgers Berndtson to lead their search for a new sporting director.

They have already started reaching out to some of the top names in the business, even though they haven’t settled on a choice yet.

Former AS Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell is on their shortlist. He has experience in England, leading recruitment for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in previous stints.

Mitchell also served as the technical director in charge of Red Bull’s global football brand.

Brentford duo Phil Giles and Lee Dykes are also on Newcastle’s radar, while ex AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto is available after recently leaving the Giallorossi.
