The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano both report that Newcastle have now cooled their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké.
Earlier this week, Newcastle had a bid rejected for Ekitiké by Frankfurt, then Liverpool, which had shown an interest in the Magpies’ Alexander Isak, also showed interest in Ekitiké. Now, Newcastle have begun to look elsewhere, such as with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
Now Liverpool is said to be advancing in their pursuit of Ekitiké. The Premier League champions are willing to pay more for the 23-year-old than Newcastle, who are owned by the Saudi Arabian government, were willing to pay.
However, they are not the only Premier League team still involved. Sky Germany reports that Manchester United are still monitoring the situation.
Frankfurt are said to have the feeling that Ekitiké wants to join Liverpool.
This saga will continue to be drawn out as die Adler drive a hard bargain, and considering they have already rejected a bid worth €80m for their French striker, the price for Ekitiké will burn a deep hole in the pocket of his potential new club.
