Napoli are readying a new deal for Kim Min-jae to ward off interest from potential suitors, according to Calciomercato.
Despite only moving to Napoli for €18 million as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly last summer, the ex-Fenerbahce man has fast become a popular figure in Naples thanks to his impressive displays.
Alongside Juan Jesus, Kim has formed a solid partnership in the heart of the Napoli defence which has conceded just 12 goals in 15 league matches this season.
Consequently, Kim has reportedly put some of Europe’s big teams on high alert and his current employers are now working towards tying him down to a new improved contract despite his existing deal not running out until 2025.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are all believed to hold an interest in the 26-year-old, whose release clause stands at €45m.
The aforementioned clause is valid for only the first 15 days of July 2023, so Napoli have ample time on their hands to get Kim to commit his long-term future to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Any contract negotiation between Kim and Napoli is expected to begin after the World Cup as the defender is currently on international duty in Qatar where South Korea head into their final group fixture on the brink of elimination.
Having started each of his nation’s opening two games, Kim has been left on the bench for this afternoon’s meeting with Portugal having come off with an injury against Ghana last time out.
Napoli will hope that his injury problem is not serious in any regard as Luciano Spalletti’s side aim to continue their hunt for domestic glory when league action resumes.
