Foot Mercato are reporting that Napoli have made a last-minute approach to sign RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danso (24), despite the Austrian international being on the point of signing an extension with Le Sang et Or.
Danso was an essential element in Lens’ run to the Champions League last season. No team had a better defensive record than Franck Haise’s side last season, and the club were therefore engaged in discussions to extend the contract of Danso, who was awarded Get French Football News player of the season.
According to Foot Mercato, negotiations over Danso’s renewal have been concluded, but Napoli, who recently lost Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich, have made a last-minute attack to prise the Austrian international away from Lens. Napoli manager Rudi Garcia has made Danso a priority, and whilst the Austrian would be keen to move to the Serie A champions, he doesn’t want to create conflict between himself and the club. He therefore will not push for a move.
Having already lost Loïs Openda and Seko Fofana this summer, ahead of their Champions League campaign, Lens do not want to lose Danso.
