Moshiri could consider World Cup boss to replace Frank Lampard

Everton are ‘willing to consider’ Roberto Martinez making a Goodison Park comeback as Frank Lampard’s successor, while Nuno Espirito Santo is also admired, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees have gone into the break from domestic action sitting just one point clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Everton manager news – Roberto Martinez and Nuno Espirito Santo

According to Belgian media outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Everton have added Martinez to a shortlist of potential Lampard successors.

The Spaniard is currently in charge of Belgium at the World Cup, but the Mirror have revealed that his future is in the balance as his contract is set to expire after the tournament in Qatar.

Martinez previously enjoyed a 143-game stint in charge of Everton, winning 62 matches along the way as per Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, MailOnline have reported that Nuno is keen to return to Europe just a matter of months after taking over at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.

Sky Sports suggested the former Wolverhampton Wanderers chief was close to being handed the Goodison Park reins last year, but Everton owner Farhad Moshiri ended up appointing Rafa Benitez instead.

What has Dean Jones said about Martinez and Nuno?

Jones understands that Everton are looking at alternative options to Lampard and Martinez is among the contenders for the managerial position if it becomes available.

But the journalist is also aware that Nuno is well-respected by key decision-makers behind the scenes on Merseyside.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “In the background, of course, they’re having to consider who else they would turn to.

“I have heard that Martinez is one that they would be willing to consider, but I’ve also heard that Nuno is one that they like and he is certainly someone that they might be looking to explore next.”

Should Everton sack Lampard?

Although Lampard succeeded in keeping Everton in the Premier League following his January appointment, results have not been particularly good.

According to Transfermarkt, the Toffees have only sealed 12 wins from 38 matches under the former Chelsea chief and, more worryingly, 19 defeats have been suffered along the way.

Sections of the fanbase have also started to show their fury, with MailOnline reporting supporters confronted Lampard and his players after a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth earlier this month.

That would suggest now may be the right time for Moshiri to seek an alternative option, but it seems a change is not in the offing just yet as Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the Everton hierarchy are continuing to back the current boss.
