Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder charged with rape

Nice-Matin and RMC Sport report this afternoon that Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder has been charged with rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault, following accusations made last month.

The Nice public prosecutor has confirmed the charges and a formal investigation has now been opened. Nice-Matin indicate that Ben Yedder has been placed under judicial supervision, and that a bail of €900,000 has been requested.

Ben Yedder and his younger brother were accused by two women aged 19 and 20 over alleged events that took place on the night of July 10 in the town of Beausoleil, near the Principality. The complaints were lodged at a local police station in Cagnes-sur-Mer, as per France Info’s initial report.

The French international, who is also club captain, was present at training this morning ahead of Monaco’s opening game of the season, against Clermont on Sunday. RMC indicate that the former Toulouse and Sevilla striker appeared before an examining magistrate in Nice today.
