Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar could join Paris Saint-Germain in January for only €20 million, according to Les Parisiens.
Sporting adviser Luis Campos and head coach Christophe Galtier identified Skriniar as a piece to strengthen their defence this summer. He was their number one defensive target.
PSG spent a chunk of their window chasing the Slovakian defender, but Inter rejected all their advances for him.
The player agreed on personal terms with PSG and was ready to move if Inter greenlit the move, but they never did.
Inter demanded up to €80 million for the 27-year-old Skriniar, but PSG were not willing to go above €55 million.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi got involved in negotiations to get the deal done. He reportedly met with his Inter counterpart Steven Zhang to hash out a deal. The transfer still did not materialise.
Campos would later admit frustration at the Skriniar deal. “I’m not 100% satisfied with how the transfer window ended. We failed to get the right balance,” Campos told RMC Sports (via SempreInter).
Skriniar has only nine months left on his current deal and could walk away for free by June 2023. Inter are trying to avoid this scenario.
If they want to get anything for Skriniar, Inter might have to accept a lowball offer for the player in January, and it looks like PSG are preparing just that.
Skriniar is unwilling to sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri, and PSG know this. Les Parisiens are preparing a €20 million offer to send Inter this winter window. However, it is unclear if Inter will accept.
Skriniar’s performances this season could make Inter consider the offer. Skriniar has been poor so far. Against AS Roma this weekend, he was at fault for the Chris Smalling winner.
The game before that, Skriniar scored an own goal to allow Udinese equalise following Nicolo Barella’s opener. Andrea Sottil’s side grabbed two more goals in the second half to win the tie.
Skriniar has been unconvincing, but so has the entire Inter squad. A change of environment could help him recover his best form.
However, PSG could face competition from Chelsea and Real Madrid for the defender. The pair reportedly wants his services too.
