Mexico vs Suriname Predicted Starting Lineups for Concacaf Gold Cup Game

Mexico Football continue their 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup run with a Group A clash with Suriname in Texas on Wednesday night.

Mexico narrowly defeated the Dominican Republic 3-2 in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday night. El Tri looked to be cruising toward an easy win, up 2-0 at the beginning of the second half.

But the Dominicans made things interesting with a goal in the 51st minute. Cesar Montes would re-establish Mexico’s two-goal lead just minutes later, but the DR would not go away easily, scoring again in the 67th minute to set up a tight race to the finish line at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Suriname, meanwhile, lost 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller against Costa Rica in their opening game of the tournament on Sunday. Suriname came back from being down 2-0 to go up 3-2 with 25 minutes to go, but Costa Rica drew the sides level in the 76th minute.

Manfred Ugalde converted a penalty in the 13th minute of added time to give Costa Rica the dramatic win.

Here is how Group A looks heading into Matchday 2.

Suriname has a number of players spread throughout Europe, from England to Greece to Georgia.

Perhaps the most notable player on the squad is Queens Park Rangers midfielder Kenneth Paal, who has 15 caps with Suriname. The nation’s record goalscorer is Gleofilo Vlijter, who has 15 goals in 30 appearances for his country.

Sheraldo Becker — a name European football fans would be familiar with — is not in the squad for the Gold Cup. The Real Sociedad forward has five goals in 16 caps.

Suriname predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Etienne Vaessen (GK) – Anfernee Djiksteel, Liam Van Gelderen, Shaquille Pinas, Ridgeciano Haps – Dion Malone, Kenneth Paal – Gyrano Kerk, Denzel Jubitana, Richonell Margaret – Gleofilo Vlijter.

Expect Javier Aguirre to field a lineup similar to the one that defeated the Dominican Republic on Saturday.

The strike duo of Santi Gimenez and Raul Jimenez has been very good for Mexico, and should once again start on Wednesday.

Aguirre has many options on defense, but should stick with his trusted pair of Israel Reyes and Cesar Montes, with captain Edson Alvarez playing ahead of them in a holding midfield role.

Mexico predicted lineup (4-4-2): Luis Malagon (GK) – Jorge Sanchez, Israel Reyes, Cesar Montes, Jesus Gallardo – Roberto Alvarado, Erik Lira, Edson Alvarez, Orbelin Pineda – Santiago Gimenez, Raul Jimenez.
