Mbappe’s expected PSG exit could hurt Leipzig’s chances of keeping Simons

RB Leipzig boss Rouven Schröder has acknowledged that Kylian Mbappe’s imminent move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid could have a negative impact on the German club’s hopes of extending Xavi Simons’ loan deal.

Kylian Mbappé’s imminent move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid could diminish RB Leipzig’s chances of keeping Xavi Simons at the club beyond the summer.

Simons is on loan at Leipzig from PSG until the end of the season, but Die Roten Bullen have previously expressed optimism about extending his stay in Germany.

However, with Mbappé expected to leave the club, an extension of Simons’ loan spell looks less likely.

“For us, this seems rather negative at first,” RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder admitted to Sky Germany when asked about the impact Mbappe’s departure could have on Leipzig’s chances of keeping Xavi Simons.

Should PSG wish for Simons to stay for the 2024/25 season, Leipzig would be powerless.

“He will return to Paris at the end of the season and we will only be able to make further enquiries in the summer,” said Schröder.

The 20-year-old Dutchman has been a key player for Leipzig this season, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 31 appearances.
