According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, Marseille have found an agreement with Malmö to sign Canadian international Derek Cornelius (26).
With Samuel Gigot (30) and Chancel Mbemba (29) having been frozen out by Roberto de Zerbi, Marseille were on the market for a new centre-back. The Southern side were reportedly interested in Liverpool’s Wataru Endo (31) and had even submitted a €14M bid for the Japan international defender, but were advancing on other profiles in the meantime. One of them led to Cornelius, who had a meteoric rise since joining Malmö from Greek side Panetolikos last summer. This season, the 26-year-old centre back has been decisive on both sides of the pitch, logging a goal and two assists in 12 games.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marseille and the Sweden outfit have found a total agreement for the transfer of the Canada international on a fee expected to be above €4.3M add-ons included. The left-footed defender will travel to Marseille this weekend in order to pass his medical and sign his contract.
