Despite being sidelined with a tendon injury, Sadio Mané has been called up to Senegal’s World Cup squad.
Bayern Munich star Sadio Mané is in Senegal’s World Cup squad despite being currently sidelined with an injury.
Mané sustained a tendon injury in Bayern’s 6-1 mid-week win over Werder Bremen, with some reports claiming that he will not be able to play at the World Cup as a result of that.
Nevertheless, the 30-year-old has been called up by Senegal coach Aliou Cissé, who hopes that his star man will be involved at a later stage of the tournament.
“I preferred to keep him in the squad. We were in a similar situation with Ismaila Sarr before the 2022 Africa Cup and we handled it well,” said Cissé.
“Sadio is a very important player for us, so it’s important to continue to follow his healing process,. Hopefully, it will be better in two or three weeks.”
The Bayern star has found the net 34 times in 93 games for his country and both scored the winning kick when Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations last year and in their decisive World Cup qualifier against Egypt.
