After securing safe passage to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals with a 4-1 win against Real Socieded (5-2 agg), Manchester United have now learned their opponents for the next stage of the competition.
The Premier League outfit will face Lyon in the quarter-finals of Europe’s secondary continental competition. Les Gones secured their place in the next round with a dismantling of the Romanian champions FCSB. After securing a 3-1 win in Bucharest in the first leg, Paulo Fonseca’s side managed to get the job done with a comprehensive 4-0 victory at the Groupama Stadium.
Manchester United and Lyon have not faced each other in an official competition since 2007/08. The Red Devils were victorious on that occasion with a 2-1 aggregate victory in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. The two sides also locked horns in preseason in 2023 at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, with United winning 1-0.
