Manchester City are interested in a move for FC Barcelona winger Raphinha (26) in the event that they part ways with Algerian international Riyad Mahrez (32), according to a report this Wednesday from Foot Mercato. PIF-funded Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli are reportedly preparing a four-year contract offer for the treble-winning winger. Mahrez is tied to the Premier League with a contract set to expire in 2025. The French publication understand that City would consider the reported €20m bid expected to come forward from Al-Ahli. The Jeddah-based outfit are also in the running to sign Newcastle United winger Allain Saint-Maximin (26).
As a replacement for the 2019 AFCON winner with Algeria, Manchester City are considering the signing of Raphinha a priority. It would be the Brazilian’s second spell in the Premier League after two remarkable seasons at Leeds United FC, from 2020 to 2022. The former Stade Rennais player is reportedly rated by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. The French publication understand that initial talks have been opened between City Sporting director Txiki Begiristain and his Barça counterpart Deco. Given Barcelona’s financial struggles of late, a sale would be welcome. It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian international would want a return to England after an underwhelming debut season in Barcelona.
