Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will have ‘really exciting’ attacking options if he lands PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo at Old Trafford, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Red Devils will resume the Premier League campaign sitting three points adrift of the top four, but reinforcements could be drafted in when the winter window opens for business next month.

Man United transfer news – Cody Gakpo
According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are planning to test PSV’s resolve by lodging a Gakpo bid worth just over £43million at the turn of the year.
The report suggests the Dutchman is back on the Red Devils’ radar, having initially been a target in the summer, and they see him as an ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
Although Manchester United are not the only side looking to pounce, as Newcastle United and Real Madrid are additional suitors, they appear to be in pole position to strike a deal for Gakpo.
That is because the attacker has already revealed that he would consider a move to Old Trafford, while PSV director of football Marcel Brands has claimed that the Eredivisie giants are preparing to offload their talisman during the winter window.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport that Gakpo is ‘pretty high’ on ten Hag’s shortlist of targets ahead of potentially looking to seal the deal during the early stages of 2023.

What has Dean Jones said about Gakpo?
Jones believes Manchester United will have an array of exciting options if ten Hag succeeds in winning the race for Gakpo.
The journalist feels Antony has been an astute signing since completing an £86million summer switch, while 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho also has a bright future ahead of him.
Jones reckons Gakpo’s arrival would mean ten Hag could rotate his squad without his side worsening.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “To now have Antony in the picture, to potentially land Gakpo and to also have someone like Garnacho emerging, I’d say it’s actually starting to look really exciting from a Manchester United point of view because of the different rotations they can have.”
Would Gakpo be a good signing for Man United?
You only need to look at Gakpo’s statistics to see that he would be an eye-catching addition to Manchester United’s squad as, according to Transfermarkt, he has already chalked up 13 goals and 17 assists this season.
The 23-year-old finds the back of the net every 125 minutes in the Eredivisie, which emphasises that he could be ready for a fresh challenge in the Premier League.
Gakpo took his domestic form into the World Cup, where he represented the Netherlands before their quarter-final exit at the hands of Argentina.
He was the top goalscorer for Louis van Gaal’s side in Qatar, having got his name on the scoresheet three times, while a 7.53 rating from WhoScored underlined that he was his country’s best performer.
