Man Utd touted with future move for 18 y/o star ‘in Bruno Fernandes role’

Manchester United could ‘eventually’ lure Sporting starlet Abdul Atawu Issahaku to Old Trafford as he is ‘a real name to watch’, according to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

Although the Red Devils spent close to £220million during the summer transfer window, boss Erik ten Hag may welcome further fresh faces to the club at the turn of the year.

What’s the latest news involving Atawu Issahaku?

Atawu Issahaku joined Portuguese giants Sporting from Ghanaian outfit Steadfast earlier this year, with a £52million release clause being inserted into his five-year contract.

The winger ended up heading to Lisbon after also receiving offers from clubs in Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Qatar.

Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen held an interest in Atawu Issahaku ahead of his switch to Sporting as well.

The 18-year-old has gone on to make a handful of appearances in his new surroundings and is set to head to the World Cup.

Atawu Issahaku is a 13-cap Ghana international and will be looking to make an impression as his country go head-to-head with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.

What has Ed Aarons said about Atawu Issahaku?

Aarons believes Manchester United could look to pounce for Atawu Issahaku further down the line, particularly if he impresses at the World Cup.

The journalist feels the wide-man has a bright future ahead of him, having already shown that he is capable of being a serious threat in the attacking third of the pitch.

When asked whether Atawu Issahaku could join a Premier League club, Aarons told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Manchester United, eventually, in that Bruno Fernandes sort of role just behind the striker, scoring lots of goals.

“He had an amazing record in the Ghanaian league. He was playing men’s football very young and scored loads of goals in that number 10 position. He is a real name to watch.”

Would Atawu Issahaku be a good signing for Manchester United?

Ten Hag took over as Manchester United’s boss following the conclusion of last season and there is no doubt that luring Atawu Issahaku to Old Trafford would show he has an eye on the future.

The Ghanaian has been described as a ‘jewel of football’ by Haruna Iddrisu, the president of former club Steadfast, and that would suggest he is brimming with talent.

Despite still being a teenager, Atawu Issahaku has already featured in the Champions League and, if Sporting are willing to sanction his sale at a decent price, Manchester United should head to the negotiating table.
