Man Utd now ‘looking at new striker signing’ at Old Trafford – GiveMeSport

Manchester United have a striking problem at Old Trafford but the club are already looking to rectify the issue during the January transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag was handed more than £200 million to put his mark on the first-team squad but will have another chance to invest at the turn of the year.

What is the latest on United?

United picked up a much-needed win in the Premier League on Sunday night as Everton were beaten 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Summer signing Antony and substitute Cristiano Ronaldo bagged the necessary goals to secure three points after Alex Iwobi had opened the scoring for the hosts.

But it was not all good news for the Red Devils, as Ten Hag confirmed that Anthony Martial, who started the game up front, had suffered a back injury in the 29th minute.

The former Ajax boss added that it was too early to tell how serious the problem was, with United set to play four matches in the next nine days.

It is not the first problem the club have had with a star attacker since the end of last season.

The summer saw Ronaldo inform the club of his desire to leave in order to continue playing Champions League football – a wish that did not come true for the forward.

What has Jones said on the issue?

Jones understands that United are putting plans in place to sign a new striker in the January transfer window.

He says that striking options are an issue for Ten Hag but that they will try and solve the problem at the turn of the year.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s a problem, but United are already looking at the situation for the January market. They probably are going to try and sign a centre-forward, and we’ll have to wait and see who it will be.”

Who could United sign?

This summer saw the Red Devils heavily linked with PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo and the forward has made a fast start to the season in the Netherlands, scoring 13 goals in 16 appearances.

Atletico Madrid ace Joao Felix was also interesting the club following the end of last season, although the player has admitted he was told nothing of an approach.

A more risky option could be a move for Brentford talisman Ivan Toney. It is understood that United are monitoring the forward so an attempted purchase in January is not out of the question.
