Man Utd Likely to Reach Harry Maguire Agreement

Manchester United are on course to find a resolution in talks for Harry Maguire to stay at the club beyond this season, according to BBC journalist Simon Stone.

The 32-year-old has had a rollercoaster United career of highs and lows, and many may have thought in previous months and years that he would be certain to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer.

However, the England international became a key player under Ruben Amorim and now is a vital part of caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s rejuvenated Man United side, with the expectation now that he will extend his stay and remain with the Red Devils in 2026-27 and beyond.

‘Multiple Sources’ Expecting Maguire Agreement

According to BBC journalist Stone, ‘multiple sources’ with an understanding of Maguire’s Man United contract situation believe that while no agreement has been found yet, the signs are ‘positive’ that he will pen a new deal after talks.

With just months left on his contract at Old Trafford, there is always a chance that Maguire agrees to join another club, such is his situation, so United won’t take anything for granted until it is signed and sealed.

Maguire had the opportunity to reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January, but despite interest and contact from Serie A giants AC Milan, nothing materialised.

With Maguire said to be earning £180,000-a-week according to the Daily Mail, it is noted that a compromise may need to be found on salary and contract length as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to reduce costs across the club.

Maguire Too Valuable to Lose for Man United

In a summer when United are set to lose the experience and quality of Casemiro, who is leaving when his contract expires, United can ill-afford to lose someone like Maguire.

While he may not have always shown the highest quality needed, the 31-year-old is a leader in a dressing room that has been largely fragile in recent seasons, and his mentality and how he has bounced back from multiple lows during his spell at Old Trafford is testament to his character.

Maguire is loyal to the United cause, when perhaps he had a right not to be, as he showed when he was a surprise part of the travelling squad for the game against Burnley in January after injury. He is also demanding of his teammates as he looks to keep standards where they should be.

The fact that he has been a key part of the revival under Carrick, and kept a clean sheet at Everton on Monday night without Lisandro Martinez alongside him, shows just how crucial he can be.
