Man Utd launch £55 million bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United will offer £55 million to Chelsea for England international Mason Mount, according to the Daily Mail.

United manager Erik ten Hag has prioritised a move for the England international, who is open to leaving his boyhood club.

Mount is in the final 12 months of his contract, and Chelsea only started negotiating with him recently about a new deal.

However, it could be too late, with several top clubs eyeing moves for the 24-year-old. Arsenal and Liverpool have already registered their interest in signing him.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has identified Mount as an option to bolster his midfield as they prepare for Champions League football.

Also, Liverpool are looking to rebuild their midfield and have him as one of their top targets for the revamp.

Nevertheless, Man Utd want to position themselves ahead of their competition with a £55 million offer for Mount. Chelsea value him at £85 million, but there is room for negotiation.

United will likely up their bid for the central midfielder. Ten Hag is adamant about adding him to his squad for next season.

United are intent on signing the player, and with Chelsea lagging in their talks, he could walk away this summer.

The new owners, Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Consortium, only started trying to keep him when incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino demanded they keep him around.

Such a waste of time will irritate Mount, who has been one of Chelsea’s best players over the past four years.

The Portsmouth-born star returned from loans at Vitesse and Derby County to establish himself in London. He adapted to top-flight football seamlessly.

Mount won the Chelsea Player of the Year award in 2020/21 as they won the UEFA Champions League.

Furthermore, he was in the UCL team of the season. A year later, he won the Chelsea POTY award again, transitioning from midfield to attack and recording career-high output.

Ideally, Pochettino wants Mount to sign a new deal, but there is a high possibility he could leave this summer.
