Manchester United sent scouts to watch Porto’s 1-1 draw against Vitoria SC in the Primeira Liga on Monday night, according to O Jogo.
The Red Devils are likely to bolster their squad at the end of the campaign. A new striker could be prioritised to replace Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a reunion with manager Ruben Amorim, but United are unlikely to pursue his signature due to the price tag and his age.
They are more likely to focus on another young striker with potential and were probably monitoring Samu Aghehowa in action for Porto on Monday.
The Spaniard joined Porto from Atletico Madrid for £12.5 million last summer. He has been a revelation for the club, bagging 19 goals and three assists in 31 appearances.
The 20-year-old has a fantastic shot-to-goal conversion rate of 25 percent. He has caught the eye with his brilliant positioning and possesses an aerial presence in the box.
Timing runs into the box has been a concern for Hojlund and Zirkzee this season. United’s regular scouting trips to Porto suggest that Aghehowa could be a target.
A transfer could depend on Hojlund or Zirkzee heading for the exit door. Zirkzee has been linked with a possible return to Serie A with Juventus.
The club could also cut their losses on Hojlund with Napoli reoortedly interested.
