Manchester United have ended their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, according to The Guardian.
The 29-year-old was Erik ten Hag’s primary summer target to lead the line next season and lift the goal-scoring burden off his countryman Marcus Rashford.
However, Man United have decided to look elsewhere for a new striker, with Tottenham’s demands for their all-time top scorer proving unrealistic, especially with one year left on his contract.
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is willing to risk losing Kane on a free transfer when his contract runs out at the end of next season amid hopes that he can convince the striker to pledge his allegiance to the club.
The England international was made the centre of Spurs’ new kit launch in a move that was meant to display his importance to the club amid growing interest in his services.
Kane has been an exceptional servant at Spurs since breaking into the limelight in 2013 and is fresh off the back of another stunning goal-scoring campaign for the North Londoners.
The Englishman was the standout performer in a massively underwhelming Tottenham squad, netting 30 Premier League goals. But it wasn’t enough to help Spurs earn a European berth, with the club finishing outside the top seven.
Kane is also attracting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid but Los Blancos have opted against continuing their pursuit of the Englishman, with Kylian Mbappe now a concrete option.
With Kane poised to see out his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Man United have turned their attention to Atalanta hotshot Rasmus Hojlund.
The Denmark international had an impressive season, bagging 15 goals and seven assists in 41 appearances.
Atalanta have placed a €50 million price tag on the striker, and they have the upper hand in negotiations, with his contract set to expire in 2027.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are still in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
They have seen an opening bid of £40m turned down but are preparing to launch a second offer for the Englishman.
