Olympique de Marseille registered an unlikely 2-1 win away at Lyon thanks to a 91st-minute own goal from Chelsea loanee Malo Gusto. In the second half, Alexandre Lacazette cancelled Cengiz Ünder’s opener. The former Arsenal striker scored his 20th league goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough for Les Gones against Les Phocéens. Marseille were arguably worthy winners last night at the Groupama Stadium with Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes producing some stunning saves. “There is a lot of disappointment. We mustn’t forget that OM had a lot of chances and that ‘Antho’ kept us in the game”, Lacazette said in the mixed zone, attended by L’Équipe.
The Lyon forward lamented the way the hosts let their opponents go 2-1 up deep in injury time. OL centre-back Sinaly Diomandé tried to clear the ball in his penalty box, but his clearance ricocheted off Gusto and past the wrong-footed Lopes. “To concede a goal like that, it’s infuriating,” said Lacazette. The former Lyon youth product also took his share of the blame, as he admitted he should have scored in the first half when he missed his volley after a good cross from Nicolás Tagliafico. “We don’t have many opportunities against these teams, so we have to convert them. And me, I have to put that first one in the back of the net. That’s a shame.”
Lyon are still in 7th place with a 6-point deficit on 5th-placed Lille. Les Gones will travel to Strasbourg on Friday for the opening fixture of Ligue 1 gameweek 33.
