Lyon to face Manchester United for pre-season friendly at Edinburgh on July 19

Lyon and Manchester United have announced they will face each other in a pre-season friendly game to be held at Edinburgh’s BT Stadium. The game will be played at 2pm local time on July 19. The last time Les Gones faced the Red Devils was in 2008 when the Sir Alex Ferguson-led side eliminated the French outfit in the Champions League Round of 16. Manchester United won the match 2-1 on aggregate. Lyon youth product Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the first leg played at the Stade Gerland. United snatched a late equaliser thanks to Carlos Tévez. Cristiano Ronaldo then scored United’s sole goal in the second leg. The Red Devils went on to win the competition’s final on penalties against Chelsea.

As a club, we always want to compete with the greatest and best, and Manchester United are up there“, added Lyon’s head of recruitment Bruno Cheyrou. Tickets for the game will go on sale on Thursday May 18. It would be the first time that Manchester United play at Edinburgh’s BT Stadium. The 67.000-seater ground is expected to be packed for this pre-season friendly between United and Lyon.
