Lyon have submitted an opening €8m bid to Real Betis for defensive midfielder Guido Rodríguez (29), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The Ligue 1 side are in the market for an experienced defensive midfielder for a year now, with head coach Laurent Blanc venting his frustration out at his side’s lack of physicality in midfield. Les Gones have lost their first two Ligue 1 games of the season – at Strasbourg (1-2) and at home against Montpellier (1-4). OL are set to announce the signing of Nordsjaelland winger Ernest Nuamah on loan with a mandatory permanent clause.
As for their midfield targets, Lyon have reportedly made progress in their attempt to land Rodríguez. The 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina is entering his final year of contract with Real Betis. The French publication understands that talks are underway between the Sevilla-based club and the Ligue 1 side, with the latter submitting a €8m bid. Foot Mercato goes as far as saying that the 29-year-old is “on track to join the banks of the Rhône from Real Betis before the end of the transfer window.” Lyon will travel to INEOS-owned OGC Nice this Sunday for Ligue 1’s third matchday.
