Bridges have been burnt. In a scathing interview with France Bleu Alsace, RC Strasbourg Alsace defender Lucas Perrin (25) heavily criticised BlueCo’s youth-centric project. L’Équipe understands that Perrin has played his final game for the club and a departure is expected this summer.
Perrin was most notably critical of the youth-centric approach brought in by BlueCo when they bought the club last summer. “You can’t hide it, it’s almost a miracle we stayed up. We’re asking 18 and 19-year-olds – and I have nothing against them – but we’re asking these young players to assume the responsibilities of 30-year-old guys,” said the former Olympique de Marseille defender.
Toulouse & Montpellier show interest in Perrin
However, he was also frustrated by a lack of recognition for his contribution. According to L’Équipe, just days before the interview, Perrin learnt that his contract at RCSA would not be extended, despite a successful season in which he consolidated his starting spot. As a result, Perrin would leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.
The information somewhat contextualises Perrin’s comments, however, it will do little to elicit an extension. L’Équipe understands that Perrin will leave the club this summer. The publication reports an interest from a German club, whilst in France, Toulouse FC and Montpellier HSC are monitoring the situation.
