For the second season in a row, Luca Netz is playing second fiddle to Ramy Bensebaini in the competition for Gladbach’s left-back spot. However, this could soon change.
With the Algeria international expected to leave the club when his contract expires this summer, 19-year-old Netz is in line for a starting berth next season.
“The people in charge have spoken to me and indicated that they want me to be their [starting] left-back next season,” Netz revealed in an interview with Bild.
The youngster is set to make his second start in a row against Werder Bremen tonight, filling in for Bensebaini, who was suspended for two matches after receiving a red card on matchday 23.
“I try to show myself on the field and make the most of every minute I get. Of course, I also want to convince the coach of me. But in the end, he decides who he puts on the field, and this decision must be respected,” said Netz.
