Lopetegui now ‘crying out for’ 39-goal striker at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘crying out for’ Chivas de Guadalajara star Alexis Vega as he would ‘bring a spark’ to Molineux, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Julen Lopetegui, who was appointed as Wolves’ head coach last month, will be handed the opportunity to strengthen the squad he inherited during the January window.

Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Vega is on Wolves’ radar, but the Premier League strugglers are not the only side taking an interest.

That is because the report suggests Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool could offer the striker Champions League football after also monitoring his situation.

Vega’s father, Ernesto, has revealed that the Wolves target has already held talks with suitors and dreams of securing a switch to Europe.

The 25-year-old is set to enter the final 18 months of his Chivas contract, which is worth £23,000-per-week, leading to doubts over his long-term future.

Vega has scored 39 goals and registered a further 30 assists over the course of 196 senior club appearances.

What has Dean Jones said about Vega?

Jones believes Vega would bring something different to the table as Lopetegui looks to guide Wolves out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

The journalist feels the frontman could be exactly what the West Midlands side need as they prepare to do business in the winter transfer window.

When asked whether Vega would be a shrewd signing for Wolves, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I do think he would bring a spark.

“I think that is something they’re crying out for once the second half of the season gets underway.”

How did Vega perform at the World Cup?

Although the World Cup did not go to plan for Mexico, with them crashing out during the group stage, he was still named in his country’s starting line-up for all three clashes in Qatar, as per Transfermarkt.

Statistics show he averaged three shots per game while in the Middle East, along with 76 per cent pass accuracy.

Vega did not produce his best form while in Qatar, but there is no doubt that he can be a serious threat in the final third of the pitch.

According to FBref, he is in the 98th and 92nd percentiles for shot-creating actions and assists respectively among forwards in the Mexican top flight over the last year, which emphasises that he presents team-mates with opportunities as well as taking his own.
