Ligue 1 Results, Round 34
Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to six points after RC Lens beat Olympique de Marseille to take second place and guarantee their participation in next season’s Champions League.
Nice 2-1 Rennes
Goals from former Rennes forward Gaëtan Laborde, and Terem Moffi were enough to wrap up the three points for Les Aiglons, who further harmed Rennes’ hopes of securing European football for next season.
Reims 1-0 Lille
Lille had the chance to put pressure on fourth-placed Monaco but squandered it as Will Still’s side edged at tight affair. Les Dogues are now five points behind Monaco and three points ahead of Rennes, who are sixth.
Lens 2-1 Marseille
Goals from Seko Fofana and Loïs Openda allowed Lens to leapfrog Marseille into second. Franck Haise’s side are now guaranteed to feature in the Champions League next season, but they will have to rely on a PSG capitulation to have a chance at the title.
Angers 1-2 Monaco
Aleksandr Golovin and Myron Boadu, in for Wissam Ben Yedder, who was dropped from the squad by Philippe Clement got the goals for Monaco as they returned to winning ways. They are still six points off Marseille in third, but now have a buffer to Lille, who they will face next week.
Nantes 0-2 Strasbourg
Nantes’ relegation fears heightened after defeat to a direct rival on Sunday. Antoine Kombouaré’s side are now two points adrift of AJ Auxerre, whilst Strasbourg are now three points clear of the drop.
Ajaccio 0-0 Toulouse
Ajaccio remain on the brink of relegation, despite earning a point against Coupe de France winners Toulouse, who have nothing left to play for this season.
Auxerre 1-1 Clermont Foot
Despite leading, this was a hard-fought and potentially crucial point for Auxerre, who are now two points clear of the drop. Clermont’s impressive five-game winning streak has come to an end.
Lorient 2-1 Brest
An Ibrahima Koné double earned Régis Le Bris’ side the three points, despite ending the game with 10 men. Brest remain three points ahead of Nantes, who occupy the final relegation place.
Lyon 5-4 Montpellier
In arguably the most spectacular game of the Ligue 1 season, Alexandre Lacazette and Elye Wahi scored four goals apiece. Lyon came from 4-1 down to win it thanks to Lacazette’s penalty in the 100th minute. Les Gones are still three points away from the European places.
Troyes 1-3 PSG
Kylian Mbappé, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz all scored for Les Parisiens as they tightened their grip on the title. Christophe Galtier’s side have a six-point lead with just four games remaining.
