Ligue 1 Results

Paris Saint-Germain squandered their chance to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 after Olympique de Marseille came unstuck against Montpellier on Friday.

Marseille 1-1 Montpellier

A Mattéo Guendouzi penalty cancelled out Arnaud Nordin’s opener, but Les Phocéens couldn’t find the winner and missed their chance to put pressure on Ligue 1 leaders PSG.

Auxerre 1-0 Troyes

M’Baye Niang scored the only goal of the game as Auxerre increased their chances of avoiding the drop. They remain in the relegation zone but behind 16th-placed Strasbourg only on goal difference.

Rennes 0-1 Lens

Loïs Openda continued his rich vein of form as he scored the only goal in their victory over European contenders Rennes. Lens are now above Marseille on goal difference and six points behind PSG. If there is a title race, they’re certainly in it.

Lille 3-1 Lorient

Two late goals from substitute Edon Zhegrova earned the three points for Les Dogues after Les Merlus had dragged themselves back into the game through an Ibrahima Koné goal. Lille leapfrog Rennes into the European places.

Clermont Foot 2-1 Ajaccio

Ajaccio looked like securing an important point in their fight against relegation, but a Grejohn Kyei penalty in the 93rd minute, his second of the game, completed the turnaround at the Stade Gabriel Montpied.

Angers 1-1 Nice

Despite an early Terem Moffi goal, Nice failed to win against Ligue 1’s bottom side. Angers haven’t won a Ligue 1 match in their last 21 attempts.

Nantes 0-3 Reims

The pe-match discussion was dominated by the exclusion of Jaouen Hadjam from the matchday squad as he refused to break his Ramadan fast. On the pitch, Reims were dominant and had the result wrapped up in the first half thanks to an Alexis Flips double.

Brest 3-1 Toulouse

Brest hauled themselves out of the relegation zone with a crucial win over Toulouse. Despite going behind early, Steve Mounié levelled the scores before the second-half turnaround.

Monaco 4-3 Strasbourg

It was a seven-goal thriller at the Stade Louis II. Monaco took the lead through Vanderson, but Strasbourg hit back with a quickfire double. Monaco’s academy players, Eliesse Ben Seghir and Edan Diop then reversed the tie again before Youssouf Fofana netted against his former side to create a two-goal cushion. He was then sent off, setting up a nervy finish as Strasbourg halved the deficit. Monaco held on, and are within three points of second place.

PSG 0-1 Lyon

PSG had the chance to go nine points clear of Marseille but didn’t turn up in Sunday night’s headline slot. Bradley Barcola got the only goal of the game, whilst Alexandre Lacazette also missed a penalty. Les Parisiens’ rivals are now just six points away.
