Leipzig sell Adams to Leeds

For the third time in his young career, USMNT captain Tyler Adams will play under head-coach Jesse Marsch. the former New York Red Bulls trainer, who coached RB Leipzig for a six-month-perios, has his man. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the German club nets approximately €23 million for the 23-year-old.

Adams departs the Bundesrepublik having scored just one league goal over the past three seasons. The RB New Yorker did register a memorable tally in the quarterfinals of the 2020/21 Champions’ League tournament, helping the relatively young German club reach the sei-finals for the first time. He also won the DFB Pokal with Leipzig this season; the first ever trophy for the German Red Bulls.

Adams’ new contract with the Yorkshire club runs through 2027. The American’s usage declined dramatically over the second half of the recently completed Bundesliga campaign under the new coaching regime of Domenico Tedesco. The recent signing of Xaver Schlager from VfL Wolfsburg effectively rendered the central midfielder fully expendable.
