Leeds now set to sign £49k-a-week star ‘imminently’ at Elland Road

Leeds United are expected to complete the loan signing of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie at Elland Road “imminently”, Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has told GiveMeSport.

The 24-year-old will link up with compatriot Jesse Marsch as the Whites look to secure Premier League survival.

Leeds transfer news – Weston McKennie

According to Fabrizio Romano, McKennie has now completed his medical with Leeds and is set to sign with the Whites on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the Premier League outfit holding a buy option in a move which could rise to around £35m.

The Juventus man’s addition seems to make sense, with the midfielder having already formed a partnership in the centre of the pitch with Leeds star Tyler Adams during their time on the international stage with the United States.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has recently told GiveMeSport that McKennie has spoken to Marsch about a potential move to Elland Road and is now happy to complete the switch from the Serie A giants.

And Thornton expects the deal to “get concluded imminently” and believes that the signing of McKennie will be a “good deal” for Leeds.

What has Thornton said about McKennie?

Thornton told GiveMeSport: “We expect that deal to get concluded imminently. I think it’s a good deal for Leeds.

“Obviously, there is a connection with the US National Team, with two international teammates already at Leeds. He is a player that Jesse Marsch knows well and he comes with a good reputation.”

Will McKennie be a good signing for Leeds?

McKennie – who has been lauded as a “machine” by footballer Sebastian Velasquez – could prove to be a season-changing signing for Marsch as he bolsters his midfield options.

The 41-cap United States international has made 96 appearances during his three-season spell with Juventus, hitting the back of the net 13 times whilst providing five assists, suggesting that he has secured enough top-level experience to make a difference in Leeds’ battle for survival.

The 6 foot 1 dynamo compares favourably with his positional peers and is capable of causing problems for the opposition in front of goal, ranking in the top 10% of midfielders across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for progressive passes received (3.42) and top 14% for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes (0.17) over the last 365 days, as per FBref.

Therefore, it looks as if a move for McKennie could be just the boost Leeds need in their pursuit to secure their Premier League status for next season.
