Leeds now ‘monitoring’ £13m star who ‘Bielsa really liked’ at Elland Road – GiveMeSport

Leeds United have been monitoring the situation of Flamengo and Brazil winger Pedro, with head Jesse Marsch looking to bring the 25-year-old to Elland Road as the Whites look ahead to the January transfer window, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

The wide man is currently on World Cup duty with the Seleção as Tite’s squad look to win the nation’s sixth title in their history.

Leeds United transfer news – Pedro

As per Brazilian news outlet Coluna Do Fla, Leeds are interested in winger Pedro, after having been keen to sign the Flamengo man in the summer transfer window.

The two-time international has an £86m release clause in his current contract with the Brazilian giants, having signed for a £13m fee in December 2020.

Flamengo may not be pressurised into selling their asset with his contract not expiring until December 2025 according to the same outlet.

Meanwhile, Jacobs has also suggested that Leeds are interested in a move for Villarreal striker (on loan at Salernitana) and Senegal striker Boulaye Dia, with Everton, West Ham United and Leicester City also showing an interest in the forward.

And the journalist suggests that the Whites have been tracking the services of Pedro for a significant amount of time, with Marsch’s predecessor Marcelo Bielsa also taking an interest in bringing the winger to Elland Road during his stint at the club.

What has Jacobs said about Pedro?

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s a player that Leeds have been monitoring, even before Jesse Marsch came in, Bielsa really liked him too.

“At the point when Bielsa was tracking him, Pedro didn’t want to leave and thought that it was not the right move to go to a Premier League club.

“He wanted consistency where he was at. Now he’s found that form and he’s broken through into the international setup, as well.

“He’s scoring goals with regularity and it’d be interesting to see whether Leeds try and get ahead of the game here and if off the back of a World Cup, where he may or may not feature significantly, they choose to escalate that deal.”

What next for Pedro?

Whilst speculation over Pedro’s future is rife, the winger will be focused on playing his part in helping Brazil challenge for a sixth World Cup title over the coming weeks.

Having scored for the Seleção against Tunisia in a friendly at the end of September, the Flamengo star will be hoping that he gets more minutes on the world’s biggest stage this winter, in a bid to improve his reputation as he edges towards a potential move to European football.

That is easier said than done, however, with Neymar, Vinicius Junior and former Leeds man Raphinha likely to be Tite’s first-choice options out wide if they are fit.

However, the former’s injury means that the 30-year-old will miss Brazil’s next two group games according to BBC Sport, suggesting that there is an opening for Pedro to play a part in the side’s remaining group stage clashes, even if this is just from the bench.

And should Pedro take the opportunity if it is provided to him, he may have plenty more European suitors lined up for his services in January, with Leeds potentially facing a decision on whether to make an immediate move for the wide man or not.
