Lars Windhorst wants out of Hertha Berlin after pouring €374m into the club. This comes after the Financial Times reported last week that Windhorst hired an Israeli private intelligence company aimed at ousting then Hertha president Werner Gegenbauer.
“After careful consideration and evaluation of the last three months, we unfortunately find that there is no basis and no perspective for a successful economic cooperation between Tennor Group and Hertha BSC,” wrote Windhorst on Facebook.
The 45-year-old gives the reason as a poor relationship with popular new president Kay Bernstein. As a result. Windhorst has offered Hertha Berlin to buy back his shares at the original purchase price: “That’s why we’re ending our commitment to Hertha BSC and officially offering the club our majority to buy back 64.7% of the shares at the purchase price at the time.”
For Hertha Berlin, buying back the shares amounting to €374m is almost impossible.
