The Spanish top flight is back with the first games of the 2024/25 season. It all kicks off on Thursday in Bilbao and Seville with two games per day across a staggered opening matchday which concludes with Atleti’s trip to Villarreal on Monday. Here are our LaLiga predicted lineups for matchday 1.
LaLiga predicted lineups – Matchday 1

Thursday 15th August 2024
19:00 – Athletic Club vs Getafe
Athletic have big problems in goal heading into the new season. Unai Simon is likely to be out until the turn of the year and with Julen Agirrezabala also an injury doubt, 20-year-old Alex Padilla may start. Dani Vivian and Nico Williams were part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning squad and may not start the opener while right-back Oscar De Marcos is another doubt.
Athletic Club predicted lineup: Padilla – Yuri, Yeray, Paredes, Gorosabel – Prados, Vesga – Berenguer, Sancet, Iñaki Williams – Guruzeta (4-2-3-1)
The season opener may come too soon for Borja Mayoral who scored 15 for Getafe last term, but saw his campaign cut short by injury in March. With no other recognised strikers in the squad, Pepe Bordalas may play five across the middle with Carles Perez perhaps operating as a lone striker in what looks sure to be a pretty defensive set-up.
Getafe predicted lineup: Soria – Rico, Alderete, Djene, Iglesias – Peter, Arambarri, Milla, Uche, Sola – Perez (4-5-1)
21:30 – Real Betis vs Girona
Betis still have a doubt over key man Isco who picked up an injury at the end of last season which ruled him out of an expected Spain recall and potential trip to the Euros. Nabil Fekir is likely to take his place for Betis who are also missing striker Cedric Bakambu to injury. Ayoze Perez may not be ready for a start following his international commitments while Romain Perraud and Diego Llorente could make their debuts in defence.
Real Betis predicted lineup: Silva – Perraud, Bartra, Llorente, Sabaly – Roca, Cardoso – Juanmi, Fekir, Fornals – Chimy (4-2-3-1)
Girona stunned LaLiga with a 3rd place finish last term, but a repeat performance looks highly unlikely after a host of key departures. New defender Ladislav Krejci is a matchday one injury doubt, but Oriol Romeu could slot straight into the team on his return to the club. Abel Ruiz is only just back from the Olympics, meaning they are short on strikers following Artem Dovbyk’s departure and Donny Van de Beek could be used as a false nine. Viktor Tsygankov has been unwell and may not be fit enough to start.
Girona predicted lineup: Gazzaniga – Miguel Gutierrez, Blind, David Lopez, Arnau Martinez – Ivan Martin, Romeu, Herrera – Bryan Gil, Van de Beek, Portu (4-3-3)
