Nine and a half years ago, Lukas Kübler moved to Freiburg from SV Sandhausen.
Since then, the right-back has made 188 appearances for the Breisgau outfit, who have now agreed to extend his contract.
As is customary with Freiburg, the parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the deal.
“We are entering our tenth year with ‘Kübi’. His strength in tackles, his flexibility and his ambition are just some of the things that set him apart. His development goes hand in hand with that of the club as a whole,” said Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.
“’Kübi’ is a good example of the fact that it’s worth sticking to your guns and putting in a fight, even in difficult times. With his footballing biography, he can also be a role model for the younger players in our team.”
Kübler, who has started every game at right-back for Freiburg this season, said:
“I have come to know this club very well over the past nine and a half years. The informal environment and the approach of the club and the staff are a perfect match for my way of thinking. I’m looking forward to more intensive work on the training pitch and lots of highlights at the weekend.”
