FC Köln fans had plenty of reason to celebrate on Sunday. Not only did their team secure promotion back to the Bundesliga, but winger Linton Maina also confirmed he has extended his contact, which was due to expire this summer.
Reports have linked Maina with a summer move for a while, with the winger having played a pivotal role in Köln’s 2. Bundesliga campaign.
But following the emphatic 4-0 win over Kaiserslautern on Sunday, the 24-year-old put any doubts to rest.
“The whole city simply deserves this,” he said of the promotion, speaking in front of tens of thousands of jubilant fans at the RheinEnergieStadion.
“Five or six weeks ago, I signed with a Bundesliga club – one that can finally call itself a Bundesliga club again.”
