The 22-times-capped international will, as a result, be free to negotiate a move to another club on a free transfer after the season as soon as the transfer window opens.
It might still be the case that Leipzig will compel their long-time mainstay to remain with the club over the course of the next month, but Klostermann’s refusal to adhere to the deadline strongly suggests that the German international no longer wishes to stay. Leipzig could also negotiate a January sale to another club should the player be open to making a move right away.
Klostermann has appeared in 21 of Leipzig’s 25 competitive fixtures thus far this season. The versatile defender has featured in Marco Rose’s starting XI 12 times. He has made over 200 competitive appearances for the German Red Bulls since heading to Saxony from VfL Bochum in 2014. Klostermann departed Bochum on a free as well after declining to sign an extension.
