Karim Adeyemi turns down Germany under 21 call-up

Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has turned down a call-up to represent the Germany Under 21 squad, according to Bild.

Adeyemi decided to turn down the opportunity as he wants to continue training with Borussia Dortmund in order to gain a better chance of a cementing a place in the starting lineup.

This decision was accepted by the DFB but it has not gone down well with the senior team head coach, Julian Nagelsmann.

U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo has spoken on Adeyemi’s rejection though: “I went into talks with Karim and the club. He currently wants to stay at BVB in order to achieve the goals he has set.”

The forward has endured a difficult season so far as he is yet to score or complete a full 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has shown some positive glimpses in his last few games though as he has provided two assists in his last four games.

Adeyemi is hoping that further training with his team will help him recapture his form from last season that earned him the rookie of the Bundesliga award.

The 21-year-old will also look to regain his form as he will have one eye on competing at Euro 2024 for Germany which is being hosted in his home country.
