Kahn on spending over €100 million on a striker: “A big risk”

Oliver Kahn seems far from convinced that splashing out on a striker is a good idea.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn says it would be a “big risk” to spend more than €100 million on a striker.

Asked about rumors linking Bayern with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has been valued at more than 100 million, Kahn told Sport Bild:

“When you talk about a fee like that, you have to ask yourself the question: Does the player give you a guarantee for this money? That would definitely be a big risk.

While Kahn acknowledges that Bayern are considering signing a new striker, he is insistent that the current squad already has plenty of goalscorers.

“We are considering the possibility of signing a striker. But let’s not forget that we have scored 83 goals in the Bundesliga, more than any other team. This shows that our current squad can score a lot of goals.

The Bayern boss also reiterated that Erling Haaland was a transfer target for the German champions last summer.

However, the Bavarians weren’t willing to pay the price for the Norwegian striker, who instead joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund.

“We tried everything for Haaland and went to our financial limits. In the end we had to decide: do we want to break our wage structure? We weren’t ready for that. That’s not Bayern-like,” Kahn stressed.
