New FC Bayern München trainer Thomas Tuchel – having given his squad three days off after noting how fatigued they looked last week – received a high-profile visitor at the Säbener Straße when team training resumed on Wednesday. Tuchel emphasized that he welcomed a chance to exchange ideas with club legend Uli Hoeneß at his Friday presser. In a separate interview published yesterday, FCB boss Oliver Kahn also let it be known that one of his famous predecessors was always welcome at the club.
“It was a strong gesture for Uli to make his presence known on the training ground,” Kahn said, “We’re all about making statements to everyone here. I work with all my colleagues here in a spirit of trust and collegiality. That applies most especially with my collaboration with Uli Hoeneß.”
Kahn naturally had to answer questions about the speculation over both his and under-fire sporting chief executive Hasan Salihamidzic at the club. The former Bayern and German national team goalkeeper insisted that he remained unfazed by all the talk. Kahn held that Bayern management had “never allowed itself to be rattled” and strongly asserted that “that will also be the case this time.”
“I can handle criticism as long as it doesn’t become personal,” Kahn noted, “I’m concentrated 100 percent on my job. We still want to be German champions and I think we can manage it. Nothing else interests me. We’ve come through difficult situations in the past and always managed to emerge stronger.”
