Borussia Dortmund have announced that Julian Brandt is out with torn muscle fibres in his thigh, which he sustained in Dortmund’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old will miss Dortmund’s games against Schalke this weekend and 1.FC Köln next weekend. Brandt was substituted in the fifth minute of the game being replaced by Giovanni Reyna.
The injury for Brandt comes at the wrong time as he was in his best form ever in a Dortmund shirt. The midfielder has played 32 times for Dortmund this season scoring nine and assisting five. His form since the World Cup break has drastically improved and even resulted in links with a move away from Dortmund.
It is also a big blow for Dortmund as they continue their title charge. They currently sit second in the Bundesliga joint on points with Bayern Munich while they are also in the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal.
