Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Joe Scally hopes to be called up to the USA squad for the 2022 World Cup this month. Speaking to the club’s media, the 19-year-old doesn’t know whether he’s been selected for the tournament but spoke of his “dream” to represent the United States in Qatar.
“I have not received anything yet to say if I am in the World Cup squad or not,” said Scally. “But I am really hoping to be involved and if I am nominated I will be really pleased. It would finally be the culmination of the dream that every professional footballer has, to represent your country in the biggest and most important football tournament and play against the best players in the world.”
Scally has been an important player for Daniel Farke at Borussia Mönchengladbach this season. The American has played 1,205 minutes across 12 Bundesliga games and two DFB Pokal games, scoring one goal.
USA kick-off their World Cup campaign against Wales on November 21 before games against England and Iran in Group B.
