João Félix could return to Benfica in January, report Mundo Deportivo.
The 22-year-old arrived to Atlético Madrid from As Águias in the summer of 2019 with high expectations. Los Colchoneros paid €127m in order to secure his services, thus becoming the side’s most expensive ever signing.
Despite initial calls that he needs time to adapt, he failed to fulfill expectations over the last three years, netting no more than 10 goals in all competitions per season.
Félix has only played 54 minutes in the last six games and reportedly the relationship between the player and Diego Simeone are at an all-time low.
Earlier this month it was communicated that the Portuguese international wants to leave Atlético Madrid and it is believed that his agent Jorge Mendes is trying to negotiate a deal that could see his client return to Benfica on loan in January.
If an agreement does materialise, Félix could be looking forward to playing Champions League football in the new year.
