It looks set to be another huge, blockbuster year for boxing. We are just weeks into 2025 and already, some huge fights which would be absolute dreams for boxing fans are being talked about, with the most notable, of course, being the insane superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, which is reportedly close to being finalised.
Another fight which is seemingly on the table and has a real chance of being made is a showdown between powerful heavyweight machines Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. ‘AJ’ and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ have been linked to fighting each other many times over the last seven to eight years, however, due to money issues and typical boxing politics which have held many other big fights back over the years, the fight did not materialise at the time when it would’ve been the biggest, which is a shame.
Despite the time having passed for Joshua vs Wilder to be the superfight it was once considered to be, it seems that in 2025 we are finally going to get the fight as it is on Turki Alalshikh’s bucket list. Both men may be past their prime, but it is still a very intriguing match-up and the outcome could shock a few people if a former sparring partner of both men’s prediction is anything to go by.

Sparring Partner Predicts Deontay Wilder to Beat Anthony Joshua
A former sparring partner of both men believes “Joshua’s chin is a little suspect”
A former sparring partner who has shared the ring with both Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua believes that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ would come out victorious if the fight finally took place in 2025. The former sparring partner of the two heavyweight powerhouses, Joey Dawejko, spoke to World Boxing News and suggested that Joshua’s chin would not be able to withstand the power of Wilder.
“Deontay Wilder would beat Anthony Joshua only because of his punching power, and Joshua gets hit. Joshua’s chin is a little suspect. I always thought Wilder would win. I honestly think it’s an intriguing fight, still. Even though they’re a little past it now, I still love that fight.”
Dawejko’s point about ‘AJ’ being very hittable and his chin being “suspect” holds even more weight after his most recent fight against Daniel Dubois, as he was not only hit a lot, but he got brutally knocked out, which will only further the damage done to his chin.

Tyson Fury’s Retirement Means Joshua vs Wilder Will Likely be Next
The heavyweight showdown is on Turki Alalshikh’s 2025 wishlist
Prior to announcing his retirement, it was clear that Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua was being planned to take place potentially as early as the summer. However, Fury’s move away from boxing now means that alternative opponents for ‘AJ’ have to be looked at, and it seems that Deontay Wilder is the outstanding candidate.
Turki Alalshikh spoke to talkSPORT recently and revealed that he wants to see Joshua vs Wilder, and it is his intention to make that fight happen this year.
