The Champions League

Italian football reaches new feat following Napoli’s CL win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Napoli eased past German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and three Italian teams are now in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Milan went past Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 and Inter beat Porto 1-0 on aggregate to go through, with Napoli’s win being much more comprehensive. But three Italian teams have not reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League since the 2005/06 season of the competition.

Back then, Milan, Inter and Juventus had made it to the last eight of the Champions League but only Milan had made it through to the next round by beating Lyon in the quarters. Three teams had made it the last eight even in the 2004/05 season and Inter and Milan and faced each other in that round, as the Rossoneri advanced rather comfortably.

This is also the first time in the club’s history that Napoli have reached the quarter-finals of the competition.
