Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry sustain injuries

Bayern Munich duo Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry during Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night.

Just 24 minutes had passed when Saibari raced through on goal before, but Gregor Kobel stood tall to deny the Moroccan, who stayed down after being caught on his ankle in the subsequent collision. Then, after receiving treatment, he was replaced by Nathaniel Brown in the 29th minute.

Although jeers from the Bayern fans, referee Tobias Stieler took no action. “You can clearly see that Kobel was definitely ahead of him to the ball,” said former referee Patrick Ittrich, analysing the action on Sky Germany’s broadcast. “An unfortunate incident.”

Then, just two minutes later, Gnabry went down. He was, though, able to leave the pitch unassisted, but it adds to Bayern’s growing injury list with Luis Diaz and Jamal Musiala both sidelined.

With no diagnosis, as of now, it’s unclear as to how long, if, Bayern will be without the attacking duo.
